2016: MY YEAR IN BOOKS

DSC_0054-1

At the beginning of last year, I wrote about my resolutions for 2016. I didn’t stick to all of them unfortunately, but I wanted to read 25 books and I did it! It wasn’t that hard at all, even though I almost didn’t read anything during the summer. To end this challenge properly, I wanted to quickly talk about my favorite (and also least favorite) books of the year.

I tried to read not only novels like I usually do, but also books a bit different to that, which were mainly biographies like Scrappy Little Nobody by my number one girlcrush of all time, Anna Kendrick, and also Talking As Fast as I Can from Lauren Graham, which I adore. Both of those were amazing and I couldn’t recommend them enough.

A completely different book though was Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari (full review here), which was one of my first books this year and my most favorite one, too! I absolutely loved this book for some reason – it’s not just very funny, but I found myself also thinking about the topic a lot afterwards and it stuck with me throughout the whole year. If you are up for a bit of a different book, you should definitely pick this one up immediately!

The book that tugged at my heartstrings the most was probably When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. I cried and laughed a lot while reading it and I even wrote a little message to his wife after finishing it, just because this story felt so special to me and I wanted to thank her. I will definitely keep this book forever and I am glad I picked up a hardcopy as it’s also made beautifully.

For the bad books – I didn’t really read one this past year. There were some that didn’t stick to me for long, like The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily or The First Bad Man by Miranda July, but they weren’t really bad, they were mostly just not like I would have thought they’d be.

Many of those 25 books I read in the past year have been amazing, so I definitely recommend checking out the whole list here. For the upcoming year, I’ll try to read 30 books and also start listening to some podcasts. If you have any recommendations, let me know!
